God is a DJ

When we first heard Faithless, “ God is a DJ, “ we had to contemplate the validity of this statement by simply measuring the consistent feelings of joy after an EDM show or festival.

Religious people are going to church on Sundays because they like to hear an upbeat message as well as mingling with like-minded believers. The congregation will sing a few songs, maybe a band is playing, and a pastor usually delivers a speech that will lift your emotions and carry you through the week. Church services caters to those who have the same or similar beliefs. Some people believe that the words of a preacher or priest have not only divine approval, but originate from a deity or an enlightened entity who is using the body of the human to communicate. Some churches have people running down the isles speaking in tongues, according to a sentence if the Christian New Testament (Acts 2:38), which means that the spirit of God has descended on the person who is now channeling God but in gibberish which of course, and no surprise here, only an elect group like the pastor himself, is allowed to translate into English.

“Channeling” is a term that became popular in the 1980s when metaphysics started to boom in preparation of the “harmonic conversion”. The Harmonic Convergence is the name given to one of the world’s first globally synchronized meditation events, which occurred on August 16–17, 1987. As per definition, channeling is a form of communication between humans and angelic beings, nature spirits, non-physical entities.

Having attended EDC twice now as well as several local 1-2 day festivals in the Phoenix area, having experienced the blissful states after a few drops of the dance set,  we can definitely see a very strong correlation between going to church and going to a festival or show. If you replace church with festival and pastor with DJ (lyrics with song), the congregation with PLUR folks, and consider the upbeat feelings we have after a festival, then there must be something in the music that has an impact like the channeled words of a pastor.

There are certain songs which trigger highly emotional states in us, laughter and sometimes tears. Some of the lyrics are as deep as that of old worship hymns but use modern language that people nowadays can actually comprehend. The messages of some of these songs are so deep, it makes us wonder how much the universe has pitched into the lyric content. Because of this generation’s deeper insight into the ‘universe’, the openness that is mentioned in songs such as “Open Heart” by Morgan Page could point to DJs who combines the words with a beautiful melody promoting a mental state of peace which cannot be shaken for days to come which has divine origin and support, what your divinity might be.

Our divinity is the experience of bliss itself during a set. We believe a universal religion or belief system is impossible on this planet, but a universal experience of joy, peace and happiness is not only possible but a must to get Earth back on track.

The importance of music in Religion and Mysticism

Certain classical music (Bach, Mozart, Beethoven etc., ) is referenced as having divine qualities through its ability to stir up emotions. The reason for this is the length of the music allowing repetition to further infiltrate the mind. DJ sets, live sets or weekly podcasts, are at the minimum 60 minutes long, allowing the mind to expand its peace and joy. Frank Liszt wrote about the famous classical piece die Walküre: “Great works should be embraced by the entire body and soul, form and thought, spirit and life. One ought not carp at Wagner for his lengths – “It’s better to expand one’s scale to his than to trying to lower the music to one’s own frame of reference”. Listz was not religious.

Rabbi Abraham Abulafia (1240-1291), founder of ecstatic Kabbalah, describes the ecstatic experience as follows: “The proof that song indicates the degree of prophecy is that it is the way of song to make the heart happy by means of tune, as it is said: “And when the minstrel played, the spirit of the Lord came upon him” [2 Kings 3:15], for prophecy does not dwell in him [unless there is] joy. Kabbalists in the 15th century in Safed, up in the mountains away from the Sea of Galilee, were known to have vines on their hair, dressed in white robes and dancing to music every day for hours! The music brought such incredible feelings of joy that it had the ability to induce prophetic speech.

The best example we think is from the Christian New Testament called the Song of Songs. These verses are Love, the lover and the beloved, God sings to his son Christ, who in return sings a song of thanks back to the father, endless is the melody.

When looking at divine expressions revealed to mankind, it never came as Light, but rather as sound. In the beginning was The Word, and most of you have heard about the sacred OM sound for Buddhists, the Sufis in Islam that are dancing to a certain repetitive sound, closing their eyes and literally spin for  5 minutes, opening their eyes and are then able to walk straight.

Our  personal experience is that when given over to the NOW, the music, any thought that we send out which contains the request for a solution, is returned with ideas that would not have been easily thought of, but are brilliant. As soon as we depart from the Now, the set ends, the brilliant idea slowly fades from the mind with a loss of appeal from  its brilliance. This makes us think: Why do ever stop dancing?

We all are vibrating at certain frequencies, some of them lost (pun intended). We hear what we like and that becomes our favorite sub genre(s).

Cosmic EDM -Examples of lyrics not from this planet

For us, Cosmic EDM is inspired lyrics and music, transmitted through the DJ as a medium of higher communication, uplifting the audience to a state of bliss for days to come. These lyrics, combined with just the right combination of sounds, have the capacity to impact listeners to such a degree that allows Love to flow through them in a form of energy that is uplifting instead of separating.

Here are some examples of deep lyrics:

Cosmic Gate: Going Home

We’ve been searching for so long,
To find the place where we could belong,
we always dreamed of better things to come
and turned our faces towards the sun,
we follow the light that we see in the dark,
keep on going till it catches spark,
I believe there’s a change to come,
we never know if we never run
And all signs are surfacing now again on your mind more

Don’t turn around we’re going one way,
the time is right we’re going home,
And now you’re in my mind always,
forever young, and forever on

There’s a distance to go from here,
there’s never the weight of the world we fear,
I’ll be with you and right beside,
ever wrong and through the night

And all signs are surfacing now again on your mind more
Don’t turn around we’re going one way,
the time is right we’re going home,
And now you’re in my mind always, forever young, and forever on

Don’t turn around we’re going one way,
the time is right we’re going home,
And now you’re in my mind always,
forever young, and forever on

Don’t turn around we’re going one way,
the time is right we’re going home,
And now you’re in my mind always,
forever young, and forever on

Without exception, this song is the one which hits me the most.

There is a place that we call home, but we have forgotten where it is, how to get there, and even who we are. We are wanderers in the seeming endless space of the universe, uncertain what our ultimate purpose is.

There is in uneasiness in all of us that can never be quite erased. There is a squeezing feeling that we not earth children, but seem to wander in a universe that appears cold and uninhabitable. Somehow, this new generation has a built-in sensor that allows them to understand that this is not the life we used to have, in our native home. How can we have an urge for freedom that is unknown to us? So this longing in us must have a past associated with it that we are simply not remembering. We cannot long for unknown experience, but we can only long for an experience that has some reality in our mind, but with the detail being forgotten. This state we long for is called peace of mind.

Besides Above and Beyond whose lyrics are second to none as it relates to spiritual expressions,

Axwell has a repertoire of spiritual channeled song lyrics that remind me of praise songs. Axwell’s lyrics are however advanced and direct. His remix of,  “In my Mind” clearly shows that there is knowledge that we are all in the Mind, that’s where we originated from and that is where we are always. In the Mind, one mind is in every Mind and every Mind is One.

These lyrics are self-explanatory. I won the bet against myself. The first time we heard this song, and subsequently saw the Sick Individuals at the INTL in Scottsdale, I had no doubt that Axwell had his writing hands in this. No one other than Axwell can play music that more closely resemble worship hymns.

The lyrics of many Axwell songs are today’s version of praise songs throughout several major religions.

Sick Individuals & Axwell ft. Taylr Renee – I Am

On your feet my friend
Run, they’re closing in
Follow me for protection (for protection)
Keeping you safe from destruction
I am the one who’s sent to save you
I can replenish what they’ve taken from you
The one who’s sent to save you

 On your feet my friend
Run, they’re closing in
I am the one who’s sent to save you
I can replenish what they’ve taken from you

The one who’s sent to save you
I am the one who’s sent to save you
I can replenish what they’ve taken from you

There is so much more to EDM than it appears. It makes people happy, it unites people, and it spreads the message of Love. How many people are going to EDM festivals every year? Millions. It gives Millions of people the peace of mind they are looking for.

We wholeheartedly believe that there is just one reason for us to have this human experience, and it is to be happy! What keeps us from being happy? We will answer this question in another post. But to give you a hint: It is guilt that prevents us from always being happy and we are projecting our guilt unto not only others but also to our body which ages in the same relation to our guilt.

Until we publish about what keeps up bound in this existence, until then we do what makes us happy:  let’s dance!

We would do “anything” to be able to go from festival to festival, work in some capacity, and then dance our heart(s) out!
